Who am I??

Me shooting a weddingMy name is Joseph Forbish. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and have been a full time metal and sculptural artist since 2000 but I have been creating art in one way or another my entire life. I am a family man and work hard to provide for my wife, Carrie and my two children, daughter Elliot and son Samuel.

I caught the photography bug around 2005 when I had my fun little Canon Powershot and I always enjoyed taking candid photos of people as they lived their day to day lives. I really enjoy taking photos of other things such as landscapes and macro, but my passion has always been people. I am fascinated by people and how they interact with one another and have always had a great sense and ability to capture subtle and meaningful moments without being intrusive. Which led me directly to wedding photography.

I am not, nor will I ever be an in your face type of photographer and would much prefer to fade into the background to capture important and key points during an event. I can best describe my style as "Photo Journalistic". I Want to tell the full story beginning to end. I am not one to alter the setting but would much prefer to allow it to unfold naturally. I can and do offer assistance for the traditional family portraits and will offer a helping hand when needed, but to me pure emotion and true genuine reaction cannot be created but must happen spontaneously. I have an artist's eye when it comes to seeing a certain scene or composition. I feel I can pick up on things that others may miss. Maybe it is an interaction with a flower girl and a grandparent, or a behind the scenes gesture between lifelong friends. The ceremony, cake cutting and the dance are very important parts of the wedding, but they do not alone tell the full story of the day. I try and capture important instances that will years down the road bring you right back to that moment in time. I am an emotional person and I become emotionally invested in your special day and put my heart and soul into encapsulating what that day was and what it meant to you and everyone that was involved. In a way, your wedding day brings me back to my wedding day.

Not only am I a very artistic individual, I am also a very technically minded person. A special Hybrid so to speak. I crave knowledge and need to know every piece of my gear inside and out. And I do. I am constantly reading new information and teaching myself new techniques. Gear alone does not a photographer make. One must know how to utilize what they have in order to create a great image and they must also possess a certain vision in order to create not only great but memorable images. I believe I have that vision and truly enjoy sharing it with others.
